Shown is a Replica 1929 Babe Ruth Jersey. This fine piece of Babe Ruth Memorabilia, is a replica of a #3 Babe Ruth, New York Yankees jersey, which the Sultan of Swat would have worn in 1929. The jersey has Babe Ruth's name and 1929 stitched on the front of the jersey. It is from the Cooperstown Authentic Collection and is size 48. The significance of 1929, was that in that year the New York Yankees became the first team to place numbers on the players uniforms. The numbers reflected their place in the batting order. Ruth batted 3rd in the lineup, so he was #3.

The Boston Red Sox/New York Yankees/Boston Braves-Pitcher/Outfielder is considered by many as the greatest baseball player ever and was one of the first five players elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1936. In 1921, Babe Ruth became the all-time home run champion when he passed Rodger Connor who had hit 138 home runs. He went on to hit 714 Home runs before retiring in 1935. The next highest total, at the conclusion of the 1935 season, was 378, which was hit by #4 Lou Gehrig. Lou Gehrig retired in 1939 with 493 homeruns. It would take nearly 10 years after Ruth retired before anyone would reach 500, Mel Ott (511) and Jimmie Foxx (534) and 40 years to be passed by Hank Aaron (755).
